I have said before and I will say it again spirituality can be just as big an addiction as drugs, cigarettes and so forth.
Here is what you need to understand, your realities are still going to be there after the meditation retreat, after the think happy thoughts workshop and after the Reiki healing. Yeah I know I am a party pooper bringing all this commonsense to the table.
These new age things don’t make your reality go away that’s what an alcoholic thinks just before the first drink or the reason why a drug addict starts popping pills.
You still have to do the work. Spirituality is about practicing what you learn in your daily life not pretending the bills in the top draw don’t exist, or your teenager isn’t about to get arrested for stealing, or you thinking your partner is going to turn from a frog into a handsome prince.
Time to get over the magic bean mentality and back to reality people. Take the bills for example they are very real and aren’t going away anytime soon. You really don’t want to be thinking them away because chances are next week you will be eating by candlelight because the power has been turned off. They have to be paid but here are ways spirituality in the real world is meant to work:
1. Meditating calms your mind and this makes you less stressed and this makes you better able to make clear decisions. Doesn’t make the reality go away but enables you to see it more clearly.
2. Manifestation is not about this ridiculous notion the Secret put out there of thinking about a mercedes and having someone drop it in your driveway. It is about having a gameplan and series of steps to take you where you want to be. And its about taking one step a day towards your goal. As you do this the Universe will align with your intent and bring what is needed in. Note what you think you need and what you actually need may be 2 different things. You may want a Mercedes but the Universe knows you need money to pay the power bill more so may put an opportunity to make a little money in your path.
3. To deal with the realities life challenges with we need life skills. Life skills are what we are hoping to attain at workshops, courses and so on. Not miracles but the skills we need to deal with life, our life, our reality as it is. This is what spirituality offers us the chance to gain insight, understanding and skills which make our life easier and help us create what we want in our lives.
Bottom line is reality will bite you on the bum eventually whether you are Oprah or the Pope no one is immune to life. But if you practice what you believe in, bring it into your daily life and be the change you want to see then you will have the confidence, faith and skills to deal with just about anything. And that my friends is what being a spiritual person is all about!
