By now you know I am a huge fan of the English Medium Ursula Roberts. And I wanted to share what she says is the real reason for doing good works. Its a good lesson for all of us.

“The real reason for doing good works and leading a dedicated life is that it is the outward and visible sign of an inward and invisible grace”.

She goes on to list exercises for doing good.

Give secretly to someone each day saying nothing about it to anyone.
Now this might sound easy but most of us tend to want someone to recognize our good deed and give us a pat on the back so doing without saying anything is harder than it looks.

To the lonely give a token of friendship in the form of a visit or a letter or a telephone message. If you are wealthy anonymously give of your wealth.

The object of this she wrote was not to do good to other people but to discipline yourself and increase your generosity.

And although these words were written in 1964 I think they still hold true today.
