Ursula Roberts explains this much better than I could:
“To relinguish a cherished belief is tantamount to letting go of your inmost self, yet surely the first and most important spiritual lesson is to relinguish the self to spirit, so that the spirit may use you in the way that seems best not to you but spirit”
“If you think you have attained to detachment on this plane of ideas test it by answering the following questions:
1. Are you influenced by the opinions of other people?
2. Does it worry you if others disapprove of what you say?
3. Does it hurt your feelings to hear people criticising your ideas?
4. Do you get angry and excited in the midst of an argument?
5. Are you worried if you cannot convince other people that your ideas are right?
6. Does it matter to you if people refuse to see the truth as you see it?
The answer to these questions is no but probably you will have answered yes which shows you are still attached to your ideas. If you truthfully answer no it reveals you have attained detachment and so you will be able to understand all I have been trying to convey when I write of the ‘peace which passes understanding’ because it is peace over and beyond the understanding of the ordinary mind which deals of things and ideas whereas peace is of spirit.”
I will be referring to Ursula Roberts a lot as we progress. Take some time to really copntemplate what she is saying.
